What’s Wrong With My Life?
It’s a mess. Life as you knew it is out of control. You and your spouse aren’t getting along as you used to. The kids aren’t behaving as they used to. People at work are getting on your last nerve. People at the grocery store move like they have nowhere else to go. Your health is sluggish, your friends don’t call you anymore, your dreams of what you wanted to be have faded and nothing is as it used to be. You stopped taking care of yourself, you always look undone or haggard. How did this happen?
Life has gotten so frustrating that you stopped going to church, stopped spending time with God and now you’re just trying to make it through the day without crying. You think you might want a break, maybe a divorce, or maybe take a trip to some far away place, a retreat, start over- Have you talked to Jesus about this? No? Did you talk to him but received no answer? Did you talk to him and you got a promise that he’s going to fix things but it’s been so long and nothing has changed? Have you just given up? You feel hopeless, defeated, loss of faith that anything will change. All you know is things are awful and “they” need to changed.
Well, the first thing you need to know is - that the Lord will change your circumstances, but he’ll change you first. We don’t want to hear that because we can’t face the fact that we could be part of the problem.
Yes, it’s true. You are not alone in your world. You are a part of a bigger picture and if you have a family; husband and kids, then you are certainly part of the problem. Not blaming, just acknowledging you are not alone. What should be done? Start working on you. Yes, my sister, start with you.
Step one- go to your first love, Jesus. That’s the first step. It’s surrendering to let go of your ways and starting over. Here’s your chance, but you start with Jesus. He will lead the way. Don’t rely on yourself. It’s tricky because you need to do what you should do, now-not when you feel like it. That’s where a lot of our mistakes start.
In the Bible, Paul said, “I don't really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead, I do what I hate.” Romans 7:15 NIV
How miserable. That’s how it is for many of us. But if we put our trust in Jesus who will help us, we will see the changes in our life and have a life better than we ever could imagine. It doesn’t happen overnight, because it didn’t happen overnight. It was over time. We have to learn our self. Study our self. Let go of the old and allow the Lord to show us who we really are- from his view. It’s all good. He loves you too much to leave you in the pit. It will take time, but it will be worth it.
Do this and watch your life become a beautiful testimony of the love of God for you and your family.
“When you take responsibility, that’s when things start to change.”
