What is girl changed? Did you look at this name, title and wondered, what is that? What does that mean? Well, if you didn’t read my welcome page or about me page, then I’ll explain.
Girl Changed came about from having gone through everything I went through, the dark days, the long seasons of being what I refer to as the “wilderness years” and coming out a completely different person. A new girl. New. Changed, in every way.
There was a lot of pain, isolation, old, forgotten memories that surfaced-not for torture, but for growth. You have to face yourself to be able to move on and be a better you. I wanted change in my life. But I didn’t think it was me who had to changed. But, I found out the hard way that it was me who had to change first, no matter who else was involved. It had to start with me. Unfortunately, I did so with a fight. I didn’t walk into it easily because I had other plans and they didn’t include me having to struggle or suffer in any way. But I did. A lot.
“God will change your circumstances but he’ll change you first.” TerriSavelle-Foy
Over a period of many years I have become a much better person than I ever thought was capable being. I mean, I didn’t think I was the one who had to change, but after I realized the person I really was, I didn’t think I would get better. I thought I was stuck. But not so. That’s when the real work came in.
After I got through it, I knew I wasn’t the only one who was a mess and needed help. I knew I wasn’t the only woman who wanted change but didn’t know how to do it, how to start, where to begin. So I decided to speak up and teach what I knew. Pass on what I had learned. Give of myself this gift God has given me.
Maya Angelou, the great poet said, “When you learn, teach. When you get, give.”
I love that. Words I live by. And that’s what my intention is with Girl Changed in everything I do in videos, blogs, books, coaching, speaking- that’s my purpose.
I feel so strongly about the good that comes out of that training season, that I encourage others to take the steps to have their best self emerge out of despair. I’m proud to call myself a girl changed and I hope others will, too.
